OH I've always wanted a Karmen Ghia! IF I could have any car I wanted, I'd love a BMW Z3.

I just did. Kinda a mechanic thing, find one that needs a little work for a low price and end up buying it, fixing it, driving it for a short time, and then selling it.
Some of them were for more other reasons. Once we had kids 2 door coupes were a pain for babyseats. So we ended up getting a wagon or van or sedan.
One of the 4x4 was just used for playing in the mud and brush.
